After declaring she can only do "the first two steps of a cartwheel", Kyra goes quiet and produces a diagram that includes the elusive 3rd step.

2005 March 22

 

After a few days of reluctance to wear her new jacket, this pencil illustration suddenly appeared on the coffee table. The happy Kyra realizes her new red North Face jacket stops the rain before it can reach her.

One night while I was cooking, Kyra was trying to explain that, in India, people can carry buckets of water on their heads, and don't have to hold with their hands. She said they also wear cloth wrapped around their bodies. When I asked her how she knew all that, she sat down to draw me a picture...

... She then went on to say that, in India, people play flutes to make snakes come up out of baskets. After drawing the second picture, she added that Indian people have diamond dots on their foreheads. The diamond shape is shown in this drawing, and was then added to the previous one.

Upon returning from first day of kindergarten readiness, Kyra made a "homework" sheet for Adele (age 2) - The object is to draw the series of digits, "one" through "ten".

The kitchen, with accurate details: Two lights on the ceiling, wall switch on each side of windows, espresso press on counter, microwave, cabinets, candy-can and two gift baskets on top of refrigerator [where children can't reach them]. Adele added blue chaulk for color.
