Panerai 2007

I came upon these counterfeit Panerai watches during my travels in 2007. The replica watch world has become very sophisticated recently, with a huge variety of styles now available. The Panerais are somewhat unique in the replica world, in that the movement they use is actually the same as the movement [usually] used in the high-end fakes. It's an older Swiss design that has been kep alive by ETA. Not automatic, and rather large - fitting for the Panerai. The fakes even have the same (somewhat inferior) engraving all over the back of the movement.

Wait - let's be clear: Actually there are many Panerai watches... The "original" versions use the pocket watch movement (above). Others, such as the chronographs, use many different movements. The fakes generally use two: The Lemania and the Valjoux 7750.
